Terms of use

Plain-English terms for the FreeLCA open beta. By creating an account you agree to these.

The tool

FreeLCA is a web-based Life Cycle Assessment tool for the water industry. During open beta it is provided free of charge. You can sign up, create projects and scenarios, run TRACI 2.1 and IPCC AR6 GWP100 calculations, and export your work to Excel or PDF.

Your account

  • You're responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials secure.
  • You're responsible for the accuracy of the data you enter and for any decisions made based on tool outputs.
  • Don't use FreeLCA to do illegal things, attack the service, or attempt to access other organizations' data.

Your data

  • You own the project data you enter.
  • We treat your organization's data as private. Multi-tenant Postgres with row-level security gates access; see the privacy page for details.
  • You can export your data anytime as Excel and PDF. Account deletion is available on request to hello@freelca.org.

Reference data

TRACI, IPCC AR6 GWPs, eGRID emission factors, and other reference data are sourced from public US government datasets (EPA, EIA) and peer-reviewed literature. Their underlying licenses are public-domain or open-license; we redistribute them in the tool to power calculations. See the methodology page for the exact sources and versions.

Process templates

Templates that ship with the tool are open-source under the same terms as the rest of FreeLCA. You're free to use them, fork them, or contribute corrections via the public repository.

Scope of use

FreeLCA is a planning tool. Results have not been third-party reviewed per ISO 14044 §6.1 and are not suitable for regulatory submittal without review by a qualified LCA practitioner. See the scope-of-use disclaimer for the full statement.

Warranty and liability

FreeLCA is provided "as is" during open beta. We make no warranty that the service is fit for any particular purpose, will be uninterrupted, or that results are accurate enough for any specific decision. To the extent permitted by law, liability for any claims arising from use of the tool is limited to the fees you paid (which during open beta is $0).

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the product matures (e.g., when paid tiers are introduced post-beta). Material changes will be announced via email and at the top of this page.
